Spring Ideation Challenge Winners Announced

Between March 30th and April 12th, Purdue University students from various majors participated in the Spring Ideation Challenge by forming individual teams.

 The winning team was:

1st Place: Megan Bighenheimer, Quintan Ajluni, Corey Tuinstra, and Shelton Chieu - They presented a solution for “Systems and Data Across Farms”
2nd Place: Simerdeep Kaur, Cindy Mayorga - They presented a solution for “Raw Material Data Traceability”

The Ideation Challenge is a student competition that encourages Purdue students to ideate digital solutions for significant challenges related to the agriculture and food industry. These solutions assist DIAL Fellows in their pursuit of creating startup companies that establish a better, more connected food system. Students receive descriptions of specific industry challenges related to themes like Labor, ESG, Food-Consumer Nexus, Data Inter/Intra Operability, Financial Complexity/Risk Management and Traceability/Transparency.

The challenge descriptions highlight crucial industry segments and the job's nature that they try to accomplish in this area. They also identify the gains and pains for these customer segments. Students form teams and aim to solve one of the specific industry challenges by creating a "Customer Value Proposition" to match these challenges. The DIAL team provides a base framework to help develop one slide summarizing the value proposition and access to the DIAL Fellows to learn from them how these challenges were identified and what they see as important about each of the identified challenges to help students succeed.

Purdue DIAL Ventures employs the Ideation Challenge as a means of identifying the challenges or tasks to be accomplished in the agriculture and food industry, allowing for the development of innovative startups that address those needs. This provides an exclusive chance for students to gain exposure to startup creation in a studio setting and delve into entrepreneurship through practical situations. Additionally, students can acquire knowledge from genuine entrepreneurs by engaging with them directly.

Winners in this challenge receive a cash prize:

 - 1st Place -- $4,000 for the team

 - 2nd Place -- $2,000 for the team

Upon winning, the team members are appointed as Purdue DIAL Ventures Ambassadors and take part in DIAL's communication efforts. Additionally, they may produce content and receive invites to exclusive events.
